ABB’s Robotics Empowerment Center, focused on life sciences and healthcare, officially opened in Shanghai, bringing more automation to healthcare and pharmaceutical companies in China
ABB Robotics signed a strategic cooperation agreement with MeTTler Toledo and Jingtai Technology to develop innovative solutions combining the strengths of their respective industries and work together to inject new vitality into the life sciences and medical industries
Based on ABB robotics’ expertise in automation solutions in the medical field, the Enabling Center will nurture innovative talents through production, learning and research
On October 27, ABB Robot Empowerment Center was officially opened in Shanghai Zhangjiang Robot Valley. Wu Qiang, Vice President of Pudong New Area, Ma Sikang, Global President of ABB’s robotics business, and numerous partners and customers gathered in Zhangjiang, Pudong, to discuss the infinite possibilities of enabling the Center to provide greater automation and operational efficiency for life science and pharmaceutical companies.
Marcus Scone, global president of ABB’s robotics business unit, said the continued development of industrial robotics and artificial intelligence technologies provides more opportunities for automation in the life sciences and healthcare industries. Building on nearly 50 years of automation experience from ABB Robotics, this new enabling center will enhance ABB’s expertise and technical expertise in these areas to help local companies meet global challenges, including labor shortages and rising energy costs, and enable companies to operate more robustfully, nimbler and more efficiently.
On the opening day, ABB Robotics signed a strategic cooperation agreement with MeTTler Toledo, a world-renowned manufacturer of precision instruments and scales, and Jingtai Technology, an industry-leading technology company in artificial intelligence and robot-driven innovation.
ABB will work together with its partners to combine their respective expertise and experience to develop more innovative solutions for the healthcare industry.
In addition, the empowerment Center will bring together enterprises and universities to provide technical training and live teaching based on laboratory scenarios to cultivate new talents. Following the establishment of ABB’s Healthcare Research Center at Texas Medical Center in Houston, USA in 2019, the ABB Robotics Empowerment Center further enriches ABB’s portfolio of specialized laboratories for robotics worldwide.
The establishment of the Enabling Center enhances ABB Robotics’ ability to provide leading automation solutions to hospitals, medical institutions and laboratories at home and abroad. Through robotic automation, ABB has transformed the dispensing of medicines for the inpatient pharmacy of Shanghai Seventh People’s Hospital, where its automated pharmacy can pick 720 medicines per hour. At ABB Robotics’ laboratory at the Texas Medical Center in Houston, its efficient robotic system was able to increase the efficiency of neutralizing antibody tests from 15 times per day to 1,000 times per day, helping to ease the burden of testing for the new coronavirus at that time. The opening of the Enabling Center will help develop more new technologies to optimize the medical industry and provide more solutions to make pharmaceutical and medical enterprises more flexible and efficient.
Wu Qiang, deputy governor of Pudong New Area, said that robots are not only the pearl in the crown of the manufacturing industry, but also the driving force for upgrading all areas of people’s economic life in an all-round way. It is expected that the ABB Robot Empowerment Center focusing on the medical industry will rely on the existing mature industrial supporting and platform in Zhangjiang to enable enterprises to accelerate innovation and build a robot ecology in the future, and contribute to the vigorous development of Zhangjiang Robot Valley.
