In 2009, PILZ released a new automation system, the PSS 4000, based on the hardware architecture of the original modular distributed I/O system, PSSuniversal, which covers security control, standard control, visualization and diagnostics. It provides another optional automation system solution for users in the field of industrial automation.
In 2023, PILZ upgraded the head module unit containing CPU processor elements in the PSS 4000 automation system, and launched the CPU2.0 version of the head module. The new version of the head module can improve the computing performance by 25% to 50%, which means that the execution speed of user programs is faster and the cycle is shorter. Under the requirements of the same operating cycle, the scale of the entire system program can be made larger. Since the CPU2.0 version uses the latest semiconductor chips developed by the latest technology, the life cycle of the entire PSS 4000 system is longer.
The same “appearance” stronger performance
In terms of appearance and size, the CPU version 2.0 header module is the same as the 1.0 version, and users can only notice the difference from the model name and nameplate printing. The consistency of the shape makes the user unusually “silky” when switching between the old and new versions, and the existing I/O modules can be extended to the CPU version 2.0 header module, and all the installation, design, and debugging methods remain unchanged.
In terms of model naming, all CPU version 2.0 header modules have the Arabic numeral 2 in their names, for example: PSSu H PLC2 FS SN SD(312077), PSSu H FS2 SN SD(312087), PSSu H PLC2 FS SN SD-T(314077), PSSu H FS2 SN SD-T(314087), the order number is in brackets.
It should be noted that the CPU2.0 version of the head module will no longer come with SD card and card, users need to purchase separately, there are 1G capacity SD card (313102) and 4G capacity SD card (313103) two options, card is packaged with SD card.
In terms of software tools, the configuration method, function configuration, parameter setting, etc. are the same as the past method, but users must use the PAS 4000 tool version 1.20 and above to find the CPU2.0 version of the header module hardware.
Precautions for upgrading an existing PSS 4000 system to CPU2.0
For existing devices or production lines, want to upgrade the aging PSS 4000 system to CPU 2.0 hardware, then there are several points to note:
CPU1.0 System upgrade Version 2.0 only needs to modify the configuration of the header module in the source program, without modifying the program code, and is completed after download
The CPU version 2.0 header module only covers PSSu PLC and PSSu I/O level header modules, and PSSu Multi level header modules (312060, 316065, 312066) are scheduled to be discontinued in 2024
The CPU version 2.0 header module will no longer provide Profibus-DP communication, and the PSSu H PLC1 FS DP SN SD(312071) module is scheduled to be discontinued in 2024
Complete automation system Industry 4.0 era of the new force
The PSS 4000 can cover security automation and standard automation in one system, communicating via SafetyNET p, an industrial real-time Ethernet, to achieve a complete solution for Industry 4.0 applications. SafetyNET p’s communication multi-master principle enables distributed control functions and improves system availability. Modular hardware architecture design brings a high degree of system flexibility and system malleability. The PSS4000 adopts a hardware-independent software design mode, which enables software engineers and hardware engineers to work simultaneously, greatly shortening the design cycle.
In the era of Industry 4.0, complete integrated solutions are clearly more favored by users. With the release of the CPU version 2.0 header module, the complete solution based on the PSS 4000 system from Peer Magneto is even better in terms of performance, and can meet the application needs of users quickly and efficiently, which is ideal for large and complex applications.
